Among the main objectives of this project is the reintroduction of endangered species and to host an Institute for Sea Studies to help train divers and workers in the sector. As expressed by its promoters, this project aims to turn l’Estartit into the capital of the sea.
The new international headquarters of the Cousteau Foundation will be located on the grounds of the Jocs amusement park which belongs to the Mascort Group, of which the Castell Montgrí and Castell Mar campsites are part. The 6,000 m2 space will have two laboratories and various salt water tanks, each with a capacity of betwen 1,700 and 31,000 litres. The constrction of the complex will be carried out in two phases: The first inauguration is scheduled for July 16, 2024, while the completion of the project is expected on the same day in 2025.
