The Costa Brava is a great destination for Summer music festivals, offering you the opportunity to enjoy all kinds of live music during your vacation!
The Peralada Festival is one of the oldest and most renowned in the region. One of the highlights this year will be Joan Manuel Serrat’s performance on July 16th with this being his farewell tour. Peralada Castle is located 20 minutes from Castell Mar and 45 minutes from Castell Montgrí.
Further south, at the Castle of Cap Roig in Calella de Palafrugell, the latest edition of the Cap Riog festival will take place. Among the guest artists are: Sting, on August 8, Mika, on August 6, and Raphaël, on July 24. The Cap Roig Castle is located 20 minutes from the Castell Montgrí campsite and 45 minutes from the Castell Mar campsite.

Starting this season, our Swift Restaurant Take Away will offer drinking water which has been purified using membrane technology in glass containers. Beyond the obvious benefits for our health, we will be helping to reduce the environmental impact of transporting empty containers thanks to its infinitely reusable glass packaging. Each container also contributes to creating and improving infrastructures for hydraulic drinking water and sanitation in developing countries. All in collaboration with Ingénierie Sans Frontières.
Some good news as hoped for by many of our customers, which will allow direct connection to Girona-Costa Brava airport with other major European cities. Girona airport is located approximately 40 minutes from both campsites.
Ryanair has expanded its routes and frequencies into Ireland with direct flights to Dublin, Shannon, Cork and Knock. The Irish company also serves the United Kingdom with flights to London, Bournemouth, Leeds and Bristol.
Jet 2 also offers direct flights to Girona from: Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Leeds, London, Manchester and Newcastle.
Finally, the Dutch company Transavia offers direct flights from Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
Current indications regarding the Covid-19 situation suggest that it will be a very similar season to 2019. Most restrictions on travel to Europe have been lifted and high vaccination rates have contributed to the positive situation. Our two campsites will continue to follow the sanitary rules in force and will, as always, reinforce the levels of cleanliness and safety in all the facilities.
Our campsites are a safe tourist destination as they are very spacious and allow direct access natural parks: Castell Mar is located in the Aiguamolls del Empordà Natural Park and Castell Montgrí is located on the edge of the Montgrí Natural Park, Medes Islands and Baix Ter.

His name is Josep Pascual and he has been collecting meteorological information from l’Estartit since 1973. Twice a week for more than 20 years he has gone beyond the Medes Islands in his boat, the Pubilla, to measure the temperature and the level of the sea water.
Josep Pascual’s passion, which has earned him the appreciation of NASA, is very useful in recording the effects of climate change in the area, especially how the level and temperature of sea water have risen in l’Estartit. Pascual argues that, in the last half century, the surface temperature has risen on average more than one degree, and that the sea level has risen by the height of a hand in the last 30 years.
He is also aware of the regression of sand on the beach of l’Estartit, and assures that from 1993 until now it has receded by twenty meters. Pasqual warns that the beaches are in danger and that sooner or later they will disappear.
All this motivates him to continue collecting data, with the aim of making the consequences of climate change evident. The Pascual family is linked to the Mascort Group, of which Castell Montgrí and Castell Mar are a part of.

The Park of Aiguamolls de l’Emporda for Castell Mar and the National Park of Montgri, Medes Islands and Baix ter for Castell Montgri.
In addition to their privileged surroundings, many charming villages with rich heritage can be found in the surrounding area. Not to be missed are: Peratellada and Calella de Palafrugell, close to Castell Montgri and Cadaques and Peralada, close to Castell Mar.
Peratallada is only 15km away from Castell Montgri. It has been declared an historic-artistic monument thanks to its well-preserved medieval architecture and is one the most important sites in Catalonia. Exceptionally beautiful, this village has kept its feudal appearance with its ramparts and its narrow, winding streets leading towards the castle-palace.
Calella de Palafrugell, situated 25 km from Castell Montgri, is one of the few villages in the region to have retained its old-fashioned charm, with its narrow alleys, sloping tiled roof houses and traditional fishermen’s houses.
The annual Habaneras Festival of Calella de Palafrugell, which gathers thousands of people to the beach of Port Bo, is celebrated on the first Saturday of July and is one of the most famous events in the region.
Cadaques, 25 km from Castell Mar, is home to the most emblematic beaches and coves of the Costa Brava. The white facades of the village highlight the spectacular landscape of the Cap de Creus, a true paradise and source of inspiration for many artists, including the genius of surrealism – Salvador Dali.
Peralada, 15 km from Castell Mar, has preserved many vestiges of its past: its narrow streets, the cloisters of Sant Domenec and its castle (now a casino). Peralada is a lively tourist center and offers a wide range of activities such as golf, horseback riding, vineyard tours, a Wine Spa and of course, the Casino. There are also many hiking and mountain bike routes around the village.
The Mascort Grup sends you best wishes for Christmas and the new Year with this new video! the whole team went to visit several touristic sites to help you discover the main attractions of the Baix Empordà area.
The tour begins in Torroella de Montgrí with a visit of the Mascort Foundation which is chaired by Sr Ramon Mascort. The exhibition « ALL THE BIRDS AND MAMMELS OF THE WORLD » commemorates the 30th anniversary of the LYNX EDITIONS publishing house and will be on display until 13 april 2020.
The tour continues to the beautiful village of Peratallada, which is known as one of the most important historical and artistic centres in Catalonia thanks to its well preserved remnants of medieval architecture.
The tour ends with the Ronda de L’Estartit, in the heart of the Montgri Natural Park, Medes Islands and Baix Ter where spectacular views of the Medes Islands can be admired from the cliffs.
The awards ceremony was held during the 14th World Forum of Human Settlements. The event took place on 6 September in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.
The United Nations particularly appreciated the preservation of the Platera, a very important wetland near the mouth of the river Ter. This area of the Montgri Nature Park, the Medes Islands and the Baix Ter was due to be urbanized. Fortunately, social pressure was able to stop the project.
The UN also recognised the preservation of the coastline. Of the 15.1 km stretch only 30% is urbanized.

The video was filmed in the Natural park of Montgri, Medes Islands and Baix Ter, where Castell Montgri is situated. The video also features a herd of Albera cows, which have been living near Torre Ponsa, an area owned by Ramon Mascort, the director of the Mascort Grup. Their presence helps to prevent forest fires as they eat the vegetal biomass which in turn avoids it turning combustible in case of a fire.
Wishing you a merry Christmas and a Happy new year! See you soon!!!
This European accreditation is granted to protected natural areas that have demonstrated their commitment to sustainable tourism. The effort of the Mascort Group will not only mean environmental, social and economic benefits for the territory but also advantages for the campsite with cost savings and improvement of the business image. This distinction, in an increasingly competitive tourism market, is only granted to companies that are committed to sustainability, environmental conservation and local development.
The prestigious award will be delivered on January 9 in Utrecht, during the Tourism Fair called “‘Vakantiebeurs”. In Spain there are only two nominated campsites – Camping Castell Montgrí and Camping Sangulí in Salou. ANWB is one of the most important automobile clubs in Europe, with more than 4,5 million members. This year, for the first time, its members have been given the opportunity to vote for the best European campsites. The criteria the sites had to meet were: The best family campsite with the best accommodation, the most attractive and most ecological. The fact that Castell Montgrí is a nominee for this award is a recognition of the improvements that have been made in the campsite in recent years.

Over the last few weeks we have noticed the comeback of red squirrels on the campsite. For a while now they have not been observed and their absence was strange considering there are a large number of pine trees, the natural habitat of squirrels, on the campsite. Squirrels are an emblematic species of the region and a crucial point when deciding which animal would be the mascot for Castell Montgri! Currently, the mascot ’Monti’ entertains children who come to spend their holidays at Camping Castell Montgri.

This species of fish, that lives in marsh areas, is gravely endangered due to the drought in this area but also because of the human urbanisation of their habitatat as well as the introduction by man of the gambusia. In the Pletera Marsh in l’Estartit, around 2 km from the campsite, lives the country’s biggest population of Fartets.
Twenty years ago 15 of those fish were introduced in a pond belonging to the group Mascort. The pond recently underwent some refurbishment which is how we discovered the population of fartets has now reached 150.000.
In order to protect the fish they have been temporarily transferred to one of the swimming pools on site where they will stay until April. They will then be reintroduced to the new Lagoons of La Pletera.
The LifePletera project has become a driving force in the protection of this species in Catalonia.
Camping Castell Montgri and Camping Castell Mar have produced a video to wish all their clients a very merry Christmas!
As is now tradition, the staff from both campsites have joined together to record a video for the end of the year festivities. This year, the video was shot to the beautiful backdrop of the Aiguamolls de l’Empordà Natural Park, where the campsite Castell mar is situated. With this video, we wish you a merry Christmas and happy new year.
See you next year!
